The guide
Hi, my name is Maki. I have grown up in Prague, I always loved history and I want to share what I know about my hometown. I have been a tour guide since 2022 and I mostly work for other companies, but I always wanted to talk about the other parts of our history that we don't usually talk about and this is what I came up with.
Queer history is something that is always there, just underneath the surface, yet people don't usually know of it. Especially local queer history. When people are interested in queer history, they usually learn about Stonewall riots or maybe even the British miner's strike and its queer supporters, but who has ever heard of Dora Richter or Zdeněk Koubek?
Both born in what is now Czechia, Dora was the first modern trans woman ever undego a medical transition and Zdeněk was a famous intersex athelete who publicly transitioned in the 1930s. There are so many interesting stories in our queer history and it would be a shame to let them go forgotten, so join our tour and discover the queer lives that came before us!
Czech queer history isn't something I discovered myself, I am extremely grateful to the Society for Queer memory and other researchers (notably Jan Seidl and Věra Sokolová) who's work I draw on to write the script of this tour. My tour would not be possible without them.
